India DLT Registration Guide 2026: TRAI Compliant SMS Marketing
Everything Indian businesses need to know about DLT registration for SMS marketing in 2026 — entity registration, sender ID, template registration and common mistakes to avoid.
What Is DLT Registration?
DLT (Distributed Ledger Technology) is India's TRAI-mandated SMS compliance system that became mandatory in 2021. All businesses sending commercial SMS to Indian mobile numbers must register on the DLT platform. Unregistered SMS is automatically blocked by Indian carriers including Jio, Airtel, Vi (Vodafone Idea) and BSNL.
What Needs to Be Registered?
- Entity Registration: Your business entity (company name, GST number, address). One-time registration. Cost: approximately Rs. 1,000-5,000 depending on the telecom operator.
- Header (Sender ID) Registration: Each alphanumeric sender ID (e.g. "BSMHUB") must be registered separately per entity. Typically approved in 1-2 working days.
- Content Template Registration: Every unique SMS template must be pre-approved before it can be used. Templates with variable fields use fixed format with approved variable positions.
DLT Registration Platforms
You can register on any of the major DLT platforms: Jio DLT, Airtel DLT, Vi DLT, BSNL DLT, Vodafone Idea DLT or TATA DLT. Registration on one platform is recognised across all operators. BulkSMSHub manages the complete DLT registration process for India-bound campaigns. See Bulk SMS India for country-specific details and pricing.
